SEO Tools: Are we being fooled by these SEO tools?

I use just about every SEO Tool I can get my hands on in my research. And through my keyword research I start to wonder are we as SEO Specialists being scammed by the providers of these tools? Every keyword research tool and website ranking tool I use seems to be telling me something different. I was doing some additional keyword research for a client that was nice enough to hire a seo expert like me and I found some weird results. I started off at SEMrush.com and started research on thier domain name. I found a handy list of keywords that I felt we could move up in rankings and that had some decent monthly search volume for a very specific market.  Our list looked like this.  For this example I wanted to use two circled keywords.

I felt encouraged by a few keywords that the client was ranking for but in low positions. Before I committed to performing SEO services on this particular set of keywords I decided I needed a second opinion on the subject. I decided to do a manual test on Google and see if the results were anywhere near accurate. Google search for my first keyword of choice: 28th place.  Thats odd since I was SEMRush said we sat at 12th place. Google search for my second keyword of choice: 5th place.  Again no where near the 13th SEMRush stated. Well I thought I would run the test again using the higky respected SEO Elite software and ran my tests again. I will share my results but unfortunatley Google returned the famous: NO Result that happens all too often with SEO Elite. The other search engines showed promise however.

Strange that these results don’t show anything near the manual search or the SEM Rush results. So where does this leave us as SEO Experts? Well the conclusion I have drawn is to use all the SEO research tools at  your disposal. In the end always use a manual search to verify results. If you see it on Google.com then it is as real as it is. Use SEO tools to make a general plan and then trust noone but google itself for your actual results, even then Google lies since these results are not verified by Google Webmaster Tools. I have found that there simply are no magic SEO tools. The best SEO Tools are your own brain and education.
